New Orleans, Louisiana – Calcasieu, Cameron and Vermillion Parishes property owners can now quickly and easily verify if they are eligible to participate and apply for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisiana’s Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority Project with a new web-based tool called “Is My Property Eligible.”
The Corps of Engineers launched this new web tool on the Southwest Coastal Louisiana Project website (https://www.mvr.usace.army.mil/SWCoastal/), which provides eligibility verification and online application for the project. The “Is My Property Eligible” tool allows property owners to complete questions in eight categories online to get immediate verification if they reside in the project area and submit an application. The owners will need to address the following:
- Property Address
- Owner Information
- Occupant Information
- Loan/Lien Information
- Structure Information
- Previous flood damage and/or flood mitigation funds
- Provide a copy of the following
- Property Owner Acknowledgements
The Corps of Engineers is asking Cameron, Calcasieu, and Vermilion Parishes property and business owners to spread the word about the project and this new web feature.
The Southwest Coastal Louisiana Project purpose is to implement localized storm surge risk reduction features to reduce hurricane storm surge damage risks to structures that have a first-floor elevation at or below the 2025 25-year base flood elevation in Cameron, Calcasieu, and Vermilion Parishes. The 2016 Final Feasibility Study identified nearly 4,000 eligible structures that are preliminarily eligible for either elevation or flood-proofing measures. Twenty-seven structures have cleared all assessments and are ready to be raised with 17 in Vermillion Parish and 10 in Calcasieu Parish. Construction for elevating structures is expected to begin in June 2024.
