NAME OF APPLICANT:  Lake Charles Regional Airport, c/o: C.H. Fenstermaker & Associates, L.L.C., 135 Regency Square, Lafayette, Louisiana 70508.

LOCATION OF WORK: Located in Calcasieu Parish, Sections 6 & 7, Township 11S and Range 08W, located within Lake Charles Regional Airport property, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, (lat. 30.1172695, long. -93.2249), as shown within the attached drawings. CHARACTER OF WORK:  The proposed activity consists of utilizing tracked chippers or traditional logging equipment to clear and remove trees. The resulting vegetation debris will be removed from wetland areas. The cleared project area and existing land contours will be maintained and mowed as a grass right-of-way to prevent future airport runway tree obstructions. The project area will be cleared of trees and remaining stumps and underbrush will be chipped into mulch and removed from the site to avoid discharge of permanent fill material.  The purpose of the proposed project is to remove obstructions (trees) near the airport runways and improve safety measures for air traffic.  The proposed limits of the project area are necessary to remove runway obstructions associated with airline traffic. Forested wetlands and underbrush will be cleared and stumps grinded. Mulch will be removed to avoid permanent discharge of fill in wetlands and other waters.  Approximately 48.34 acres forested and scrub shrub wetlands would be converted and maintained as herbaceous vegetation. If a Department of the Army permit is warranted, the applicant has proposed to mitigate any unavoidable wetlands impacts at an approved and acceptable mitigation bank within the N.O. District.
