NEW ORLEANS, LA – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, will host a public meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 26, to provide an update on the status of construction projects in the New Orleans East area. The project area extends from the Industrial Canal east to South Point, around the Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge, west to the NASA Michoud Facility and ties in to the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal Surge Barrier.

The Corps will also host a meeting to provide an overview of the proposed action for Individual Environmental Report (IER) 11 Tier 2 Pontchartrain. The proposed action is construction of a sector gate and two vertical lift gates south of the Senator Ted Hickey (Seabrook) Bridge. When complete, the proposed Seabrook Floodgate Complex would reduce risk to residences and businesses from storm surge generated through Lake Pontchartrain.
The public review period for IER 11 Tier 2 Pontchartrain was extended from the previously-scheduled ending date of January 6, 2010 and will now close at midnight on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010. The document is currently available for public review at www.nolaenvironmental.gov.
