Effective May 28, 2020 interested parties are hereby notified that a request for permission to alter U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) projects pursuant to Section 14 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 (33 U.S.C. Section 408) has been received and will be evaluated by the New Orleans District. Written comments, including any objections to the proposed alteration, stating reasons therefor, are being solicited from anyone having an interest in the requested alteration of USACE projects. This Public Notice solicits comments only on the proposed alteration of the eight federal projects and fourteen federal easements described below and depicted on the attached drawings. 16-274, the Plaquemines Parish Government, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, and the New Orleans Regional Planning Commission propose to construct and expand Peters Road over the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GIWW) and the Algiers Canal levees at Belle Chasse, Louisiana

The Plaquemines Parish Government, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, and the New Orleans Regional Planning Commission propose to construct and expand Peters Road over the GIWW and the East and West Algiers Canal levees.  The bridge span connects the previous USACE-approved roadways on either side of the GIWW via a 100-foot vertical clearance fixed bridge span.  The proposed bridge is approximately 5,400 feet long with a minimum of 100 feet vertical clearance at the centerline of the GIWW.  The project will also allow for approximately 90 feet of vertical clearance over the Algiers Canal levees.

 The Peters Road Bridge over the GIWW will cross the north side of the Algiers Canal Levee near 29°49’56.18”N, 90°03’08.37”W and will cross the south side of the Algiers Canal Levee near 29°49’50.17”N, 90°03’06.05” W.
