How to send comments. Comments can be mailed to the address appearing in the Public Notice or emailed to the Project Manager identified on the Public Notice. Comments made in reference to a Public Notice should include your name, address, and phone number as well as the permit application number identified on the Public Notice.

Individuals or parties may request an extension of time in which to comment on the proposed work by writing to the project manager or clicking on the project manager’s name on the public notice grid on the web page. Any request must be specific and substantively supportive of the requested extension, and received by this office prior to the end of the initial comment period. The Branch Chief will review the request and the requestor will be promptly notified of the decision to grant or deny the request. If granted, the time extension will be continuous to the initial comment period and, inclusive of the initial comment period, will not exceed a total of 30 calendar days.

LOCATION OF WORK: The proposed activity would affect waters associated with the Mississippi River. The proposed project will be located within the Mississippi River. Work in the Mississippi River would take place along the left descending bank at approximately mile marker 87.0 above Head of Passes. The project/review area is located on the south side of East Saint Bernard Highway, in Section 12, Township 13 South, Range 12 East; at Latitude 29.927385 and Longitude -89.943869; in Chalmette, Saint Bernard Parish, Louisiana.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The applicant requests authorization for a modification to remove silt via maintenance dredging around the cooling water pump, dock, and monopiles downstream of the Mississippi River dock structure at Valero’s Meraux Refinery and remove accumulated sediment from the cooling water pond located on the levee batture annually over a 5 year period. Approximately 412,000 cubic yards are to be dredged and re-deposited on-site into the Section 10 waters of the Mississippi River annually.
