DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The applicant requests authorization to dredge approximately 163,742 cubic yards of earthen material within Bayou Maringouin and Bayou Grosse Tete, install a double 8-foot wide by 8-foot long box culvert near Valverda Road, remove approximately 277 square yards of rip rap for the existing Torbert weir and place 100 cubic yards of rip rap for the construction of a 10-foot wide by 129-foot long weir at a 12.6 foot height elevation near Manda Road, remove approximately 284 square yards of rip rap for the existing Bayou Grosse Tete weir and place 167 cubic yards of rip rap for the construction of a 10-foot wide by 220-foot long weir, remove approximately 109 square yards of rip rap for the existing Bayou Maringouin weir and place 80 cubic yards of rip rap for the construction of a 10-foot wide by 101-foot long weir near Bayou Road and Louisiana Highway 76. All dredged earthen material would be hauled away using existing access routes to a non-wetland location. All three new weir structures would be constructed 50 feet away from the existing weir structures. The purpose for the Torbert weir 10-foot height elevation increase is to improve water diversion into Bayou Grosse Tete. The purpose of the project is to reduce flooding to surrounding areas by increasing water flow and replace outdated weir structures for scour protection.
