LOCATION OF WORK: The project would affect waters of the United States and navigable waters of the United States associated with Calcasieu River. The project/review area is located on the North side of Ronald Reagan Highway/Highway 190, Latitude: 30.50283611111111°N and Longitude: -92.91473055555556°W; in Kinder, Allen Parish, Louisiana.

EXISTING CONDITIONS: The current ramp is outdated and does not function as designed. Due to its current location at the edge of the main river channel, the extension of the existing boat ramp would be extremely costly due to extensive fill requirements in the main river channel to extend the boat ramp.

PROJECT PURPOSE:

Basic: Recreation.

Overall: Repair and construction of an improved recreational boat ramp along the Calcasieu River.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The purpose of the project is to relocate/replace the boat ramp at Highway 190. The new ramp at the proposed location would not be subjected to main river channel currents, resulting in less costly construction and no fill requirements in the main channel of the Calcasieu River. The ramp is the only public boat ramp on the Calcasieu River between White Oak (Calcasieu Parish) and the Hwy 10 Bridge at Oakdale (Allen Parish). Access to the river at this location is crucial, not only from a recreational standpoint, but also for marine transportation safety and fisheries management standpoint. The applicant requests authorization to construct a new boat
launch/ramp to replace the existing ramp for public use. The new ramp will provide better access to the Calcasieu River. The existing boat ramp at the Hwy 190 bridge does not extend far enough into the channel of the Calcasieu River. During dry weather conditions, the end of the boat ramp is exposed and a sharp drop of exists. Anglers using the ramp have frequently reported damage to trailers and boats when
loading/unloading boats.
