NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, and its contractors will temporarily shift travel lanes on a section of St. Charles Avenue for work related to the Southeast Louisiana Drainage Project (SELA).
Beginning Thursday, September 4, 2014, westbound (uptown bound) St. Charles Avenue traffic will shift to the eastbound side of St. Charles Avenue between Leontine Street and Octavia Street. There will be two-way traffic on the eastbound side of St. Charles Avenue at this location.
The traffic shift is necessary for construction of a new drainage box culvert and water main on Jefferson Avenue at this location.
This lane shift will be in effect until December 2014.
Throughout construction, The Corps will continue to work closely with its partners at the Regional Transit Authority, the Department of Public Works for the City of New Orleans, the New Orleans Police Department, the New Orleans Fire Department, and Emergency Services for the City of New Orleans. Traffic shifts in this area are also coordinated with the Jewish Community Center, local schools and adjacent residents.
