Meeting to provide overview of feasibility study
NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, is hosting a public meeting to discuss alternatives under consideration for the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet Ecosystem Restoration Plan.
The meeting will be held on Tuesday, Apr. 20, at Holy Angels Convent, 1011 Gallier St., in New Orleans’ Upper Ninth Ward.
“Earlier this year our team received feedback that community members had additional questions about the alternatives we are considering for restoring these ecosystems,” said Greg Miller, senior planner. “We’re holding this meeting to provide a forum where community members can gather information about the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet Ecosystem Restoration Plan and the proposed Violet Freshwater Diversion in St. Bernard Parish.”
The Mississippi River Gulf Outlet Ecosystem Restoration Plan would benefit the Central Wetlands, Lake Borgne, Lake Pontchartrain, the Mississippi Sound, and the Biloxi Marsh. The Violet Freshwater Diversion is a key component being evaluated for the proposed plan.
The meeting will begin with a one-hour open house from 6 to 7 p.m. Project team members will staff information booths addressing the overall project area, plan alternatives, the environmental review process, anticipated impacts and benefits, and the proposed freshwater diversion near Violet.
