NEW ORLEANS -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, will temporarily close the Reserve Relief Canal Boat Launch and restrict travel down the full length of the Reserve Relief Canal starting July 15, 2026. These closures and travel restrictions are projected to remain in place until project completion in June 2030.
The temporary canal closure is required to facilitate the safe construction of the Reserve Relief Pump Station, which will be built where the West Shore Lake Pontchartrain (WSLP) Levee alignment crosses the canal. As a result of this closure, there will be no vessel access to Lake Maurepas, or the I-10 canal from the Reserve Relief Canal Boat Launch.
While these closures are in place, the public is encouraged to use alternate boat launches in the area to access Lake Maurepas, including:
- Pete’s Landing Boat Launch
- Akers Boat Ramp
- Bonnet Carré Spillway Boat Launch
