Construction Sequence

Years 2001-2004
  • Removal of East Bank Industrial Area, Galvez Street Wharf, Oak Trees, and U.S. Coast Guard building.
  • Levee and Floodwall construction begins.
  • Bypass Channel around New Lock location is dredged.
Years 2004-2008
  • Construction of New Lock is completed.
  • Levees and Floodwalls are complete.
  • The superstructure of the Claiborne Avenue Bridge is replaced with only a two-week closure for vehicular traffic crossing the bridge.
Years 2007-2011
  • Temporary Bridge at St. Claude Avenue while new bridge is under construction.
  • Bypass Channel around existing lock.
  • Existing lock is demolished.
Years 2011-2013
  • New St. Claude Bridge is built.
  • Mooring facilities built.
  • Project Complete
