The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers
New Orleans District plans, designs, constructs,
operates and maintains federally sponsored navigation,
flood control, hurricane protection and water resources
development projects in 30,000 square miles of south
central and coastal Louisiana. This includes 950 miles of
Mississippi River & Tributaries Project Levees, as well as
numerous
locks , floodwalls, floodgates, flood control structures,
and spillways.
