- The ports located on the Mississippi River from Baton Rouge to the Head of Passes make
up the largest port complex in the world.
- The New Orleans District performs approximately 1/3 of the total maintenance dredging
for the Corps of Engineers.
- We have the largest dredging program in the Corps.
- Average Annual Maintenance Dredging Program (FY 95 - FY 99) - $83.5 million; 83.4
million cubic yards.
- Dredging on the Mississippi River alone is approximately 50% of the total funds expended
on maintenance dredging.
- There are 2800 miles of authorized project channels in the District. Of these 2400 miles
are shallow draft and 400 miles are deep draft.
- There are 5200 miles of navigable waterways in the District.

PROJECT COSTS:
- Average Annual Total Operations & Maintenance, General Program (FY 95 - FY 99) -
$127.1 million. Dredging is approximately 66% of the total program.
