 NEW ORLEANS DISTRICT MENTORING PROGRAM

MISSION: The Mentoring Program capitalizes on the knowledge and experiences of New Orleans District’s successful role models to help develop future leaders, promote team work, and broaden the perspective of all participating members. The Mentoring Program fully supports the Corps’ strategic mission regarding "Invest in People".

DESCRIPTION: The Mentoring Program Pilot, which began 1 Dec 97, has 100 matched pairs of participants. It is multi-cultural as well as multi-faceted. It proudly counts among its members wage grade employees as well as engineers, biologists, budget analysts, planners, information specialists, etc. The program includes a hearing impaired participant whom we happily accommodate with a deaf interpreter for her mentoring sessions.

OBJECTIVES:

1. Provide a forum whereby future leaders, current leaders, and District managers can exchange ideas, understanding, and appreciation for organizations and disciplines within the New Orleans District.

2. Furnish a mentor/role model who can guide mentees in their career path by assisting them in identifying their short and long range goals.

3. Offer the wisdom of experience along with guidance, encouragement, and feedback to help mentees develop skills in order to reach their full potential,

4. Develop a trust between two people that can lead to a better understanding of the Corps’ overall mission.

5. Improve morale, job satisfaction, and work performance.

6. Foster group dynamics that will improve communication throughout the district.

7. Develop an understanding and awareness of the New Orleans District’s mission, vision, values and goals.
