Katrina Claims Information
Claims in Litigation
The Corps has received more than 490,000 claim forms seeking recovery from the
United States for hurricane storm related damages. These forms have been electronically
scanned and entered into a database, and an acknowledgement letter has been
sent to each claimant or to the claimant's attorney, if one was listed on the
claim. All of these claims are currently the subject of litigation before the
federal district court in New Orleans. Until such time as the litigation is
completed, including any appellate process, no activity is expected to be taken on any of these claims. For information
on this litigation, please visit http://www.laed.uscourts.gov/CanalCases/CanalCases.htm
.
Levee Settlement
Please be advised that the United States is not a party to the class action
settlement that has been reached with the state levee boards and their insurer.
The United States has instead been dismissed from the Levee litigation, particularly
the litigation involving flood damages related to the 17th St., London Ave.
and Orleans Ave. Canals. For information on the Levee settlement, please call
toll-free 1-888-287-5893, or visit www.LeveeBreachClass.com
