Spillway Opening Pace

After heavy rains in the Mississippi and Ohio River valleys increased river stages, the Corps opened the spillway on April 11, 2008 for the first time since 1997.
Within nine days the Corps opened 160 of the 350 total bays. The flows passing through the structure averaged about 113,000 cfs; the maximum flows peaked at approximately 160,000 cfs.
The Mississippi River stage reached its crest at 16.96 ft. on April 26, 2008. |
