REEGIS Background Information

This data contains spatial information on navigation and hydrographic features within the Atchafalaya River Basin. The area defined as the Atchafalaya River Basin encompasses the geographical area south of the Red River below Latitude 31 7' 30" and Old River Inflow Channel to Atchafalaya Bay, south of Eugene Island.

The data used to create the Navigation Folio and Hydrographic Survey Book are part of an overall GIS of the Atchafalaya River Basin which encompasses such categories as general river features, fish and wildlife areas, navigation facilities, structures (dwellings, warehouses, etc.), utilities, as well as others.

This survey information is accurate as of the date of publication. Hydrographic survey data is subject to rapid change due to several factors including but not limited to dredging activity and natural shoaling and scouring processes. The accuracy of this data is therefore not guaranteed and prudent mariners should not rely solely upon it.
