Thomas J. Hodgini
Chief for Program Execution Hurricane Protection Office
Thomas J. Hodgini became the Chief of the Program Execution Division of the Hurricane Protection Office in September 2010. He is the former Chief, Public Works Division, Northwest Region, Installation Management Command, and the previous Deputy to the Executive Director, Field Support, Army Sustainment Command. Most recently Hodgini was the Deputy for Program Management for New Orleans Support, Rock Island District.
Mr. Hodgini completed a military career as a U.S. Army Colonel serving as Director of Public Works, Fort Sill, OK. He previously served as Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff, U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, South Pacific Division, and as Commander and District Engineer of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District.
Mr. Hodgini was commissioned in 1973 as a second lieutenant, Corps of Engineers, following his graduation with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point. He holds a Master of Science degree in Physics from the U. S. Naval Postgraduate School. He is a graduate of the Army’s Airborne and Air Assault schools, Engineer Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the Engineer Construction and Contracting Course, Command & General Staff College, and US Army War College.
Mr. Hodgini’s decorations include the Legion of Merit with four Oak Leaf Clusters, Meritorious Service Medal with three Oak leaf clusters, the Army Commendation Medal, and Civilian Superior Service Medal.
Mr. Hodgini is a registered professional engineer in the state of Mississippi. He is a member of the Society of American Military Engineers, the Army Engineer Association, and the Association of the United States Army.
Hurricane Protection Office Mission
Execute the fully authorized/appropriated Hurricane & Storm Damage Risk Reduction System program/projects in order to provide 100 year level of risk reduction by 2011. Complete Permanent Pumps/Plaquemines Parish/Grand Isle Flood Risk Management projects on a parallel/complementary timeline.
Hurricane Protection Office - Commander's Intent
Broader Purpose: Reduce the risk of hurricane induced flood damage to the people of Southeast Louisiana. Ensure our efforts are linked to existing U.S. Army Corps of Engineers/local flood risk management efforts.
Key Tasks:
- Local Sponsor collaboration coupled with transparent public interface
- Seamless/transparent degree of teamwork with Task Force Hope/New Orleans District that assures system integrity
- Regional Teamwork/Interdependency/Teamwork that helps deliver system by 2011
- Leverage Industry to enable innovation/delivery
- Inner Harbor Navigation Canal Lake Borgne Surge Barrier
End State: Risk to the people of greater New Orleans reduced - 100 year level of risk reduction program/projects complete by 2011. Residual program/projects completed or on glide-path towards completion.
