How to send comments. Comments can be mailed to the address appearing in the Public Notice or emailed to the Project Manager identified on the Public Notice. Comments made in reference to a Public Notice should include your name, address, and phone number as well as the permit application number identified on the Public Notice. 

Individuals or parties may request an extension of time in which to comment on the proposed work by writing to the project manager or clicking on the project manager’s name on the public notice grid on the web page.  Any request must be specific and substantively supportive of the requested extension, and received by this office prior to the end of the initial comment period.  The Branch Chief will review the request and the requestor will be promptly notified of the decision to grant or deny the request.  If granted, the time extension will be continuous to the initial comment period and, inclusive of the initial comment period, will not exceed a total of 30 calendar days.

LOCATION OF WORK: Located on the Calcasieu River Ship Channel and Cameron Loop Pass, near the Cameron Parish Port, Harbor and Terminal facility, in Cameron, Louisiana, within Cameron Parish, as shown on the enclosed drawings.

CHARACTER OF WORK: The applicant has requested permit reissuance to perform maintenance dredging of a segment of the Calcasieu River Ship Channel and Calcasieu River Loop Pass.  Multiple permit authorizations and time extensions have been granted for dredging at and near the existing port facility since September 25, 2000.  The most recent permit authorization was granted on July 14, 2011, for dredging of the channel to a depth of -30 feet to accommodate deep draft vessels.  The applicant has requested permit reissuance to dredge the channel to a depth of -20 feet, removing approximately 375,000 cubic yards of material by hydraulic suction dredge, as shown on the permit drawings.  All dredged materials will be pumped through a submerged pipe to a 2112’ x 9283’ primary disposal area west of the mouth of the Calcasieu River, into the Gulf of Mexico.  A 2700’ x 9800’ alternate disposal area to the east of the mouth of the River into the Gulf of Mexico, will be utilized if deemed necessary.  Approximately 125 acres of Waters of the US will be impacted by the project, and no wetland impacts are proposed.
