MVN-2002-01131-CO

Published July 9, 2018
Expiration date: 8/7/2018

NAME OF APPLICANT: Bear Industries, c/o Lanier & Associates Consulting Engineers, Inc., 4101 Magazine Street., New Orleans, Louisiana 70115.

LOCATION OF WORK:  Within the Mississippi River Basin, in the Lower Mississippi River Baton Rouge hydrologic unit (HUC 08070100), in the Mississippi River, left descending bank, mile 189, near St. Gabriel, Louisiana, in Iberville Parish.

CHARACTER OF WORK:  By permit dated May 13, 2003, and subsequent modifications/time extensions dated October 7, 2003, May 15,2006, and November 19, 2008, the applicant was authorized to dredge an area and install a parking area, access ramp, conveyor, breasting dolphins, anchor piles, chains, and buoys for a ship dock and rock transfer terminal.  Currently, the applicant is proposing to modify the terminal by removing two monopole breasting dolphins and four monopile mooring dolphins. These structures will be replaced with two 4-pile breasting dolphins and six mooring buoys with anchor piles and chains. The new structures will be located approximately 1,300 feet upstream of the existing structures. The new terminal will allow the applicant to shift the existing marine facility away from the deep draft navigation channel and allow for a safe mooring area for aggregate vessels. Approximately 200 cubic yards of rip rap will be placed at the base of piles driven through the revetment, as required by the Corps. Approximately 0.01 acres of non-vegetated water bottoms will be impacted.  No vegetated wetlands will be impacted by this activity.

To minimize impacts, the applicant is accessing the site from the waterway. Piles will be driven via barge mounted dredge.
