Two traffic changes to occur on Jefferson Avenue related to SELA
Southeast Louisiana Urban Flood Control Project (SELA)
NEW ORLEANS – Weather permitting, beginning Wednesday, April 20, 2016, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District will implement two changes to the current traffic pattern on Jefferson Avenue for work related to the Southeast Louisiana Urban Flood Control Project (SELA).

Beginning Wednesday, a phased traffic signal will be installed on Magazine Street that will alternate east bound (downtown bound) and west bound (uptown bound) traffic through the Jefferson Avenue intersection. The lane shift is for permanent roadway restoration and is scheduled to take approximately four weeks to complete.
Additionally, north bound (lake bound) traffic on Jefferson Avenue between Constance and Magazine streets will be shifted to the west side of the road (typically the south bound or river bound lanes) so that permanent roadway restoration can occur on the east side of Jefferson Avenue.
During the closure, drivers traveling west (uptown) on Freret Street can access Jefferson Avenue and go north bound (lake bound). Drivers traveling east (downtown) on Freret Street will be detoured at Nashville Avenue; Joseph and Octavia streets will be accessible for local traffic only.
Throughout construction, the Army Corps will continue to coordinate closures with its partners at the City of New Orleans and the Sewerage & Water Board.
