 POSTPONED: A Tribute to Veterans to be hosted at the Bonnet Carré Spillway

UPDATE: Due to inclement weather, this event is being postponed until further notice.

NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans – Come join the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District and the Bonnet Carre Spillway Radio Control Club in honoring our veterans on Saturday, May 16 at the Bonnet Carre Spillway. Veterans from the VA Veteran’s Home in Reserve, LA will be attending the event, which will feature a model airplane show and much more. All veterans are invited to attend, and are welcome to bring along their family and friends.

Lunch will be provided for the first 200 veterans by Jacob’s Sausage Compnay of LaPlace, LA. Family and friends are encouraged to bring their own lunch; however, they are welcome to eat the provided lunch if there is extra.

 New Orleans District Commander Col. Richard Hansen, Lt. Col. Austin Appleton and St. Charles Parish President V.J. St. Pierre, Jr. will be in attendance Saturday, so please join us in making this day truly special.

WHAT: A Tribute to Veterans ceremony, featuring:

·       Opening remarks by Col. Richard Hansen, Lt. Col. Austin Appleton and St. Charles Parish President V.J. St .Pierre, Jr.

·       Model airplane show featuring aircrafts from World War I, World War II and many more.

·       Lunch for the first 200 veterans provided by Jacob’s Sausage Company

WHERE: Bonnet Carre Spillway – Bleakley Field

WHEN: Saturday, May 16, 2015; 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Directions: if coming from New Orleans, take I-10 West and merge into I-310. Once on the I-310, take Norco exit (exit 2) to US-61 and continue west. Turn left at the third light onto Apple Street. Take Apple Street until it ends at River Road and make a right. Follow this road approximately three miles, past the Bonnet Carre Spillway office. driving alongside the locks, Bleakley Field will be across from the Spillway structure, approximately three quarters of a mile past the Bonnet Carre Spillway office.
