Corps public meetings to discuss Westbank risk reduction projects Meetings slated for Tuesday, Mar. 9 in Marrero and Wednesday, Mar. 10 in Algiers

NEW ORLEANS – Construction of a number of Westbank risk reduction projects are currently or soon to be underway and the US Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, is hosting two public meetings to discuss impacts that residents can expect as the Corps builds the stronger and more reliable Greater New Orleans Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction System.

“The key to reducing risk is making informed decisions,” said Julie Vignes, senior project manager. “These public meetings will discuss a number of the structures the Corps is building to reduce risk to Westbank residents in Jefferson, Orleans and Plaquemines parishes.”

On Tuesday, Mar. 9 the Corps will discuss the planned improvements to the Harvey to Westwego Levee project and the construction of concrete T-walls at the Ames and Mt. Kennedy pump stations, both projects are in Marrero.

On Wednesday, Mar. 10 the Corps will discuss the status of construction and refinements to the plan to build the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway West Closure Complex project which will reduce risk for about 250,000 Westbank residents and businesses. The meeting presentation will also discuss the status of building concrete T-walls in front of the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans pump stations 11 and 13, both in Algiers.
