Hurricane preparation exercise set May 27

What: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District is holding a hurricane preparation and response exercise May 27 designed to rehearse the Corps' response plan and improve internal coordination.

Attendees will see the gates and pumps in action.
Throughout the day, our emergency response teams will run through all of the systems, including back ups, to refine our emergency response for any scenario.
Where: While we will be running the exercise at all three outfall canals, all media is invited to the Orleans Avenue Canal to view the gates and pumps in action. The structure is located off of Marconi Drive, north of Robert E. Lee.
When: Thursday, May 27, 2010, beginning around 8:00 a.m. at the Orleans Avenue Canal

Planning to attend? Please call 504-862-1914 to schedule an interview and/or site visit. All visitors must bring their own hard hats and wear closed-toe shoes and long pants.
Exercise is not open to public.
All site visits to 17th St. and London Ave canals must be scheduled two hours in advance for staffing purposes. Gates are expected to close around 8 a.m. at each location. The time is approximate.
