Published Dec. 3, 2012

NEW ORLEANS, LA – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, will temporarily intermittently close a north and southbound travel lane at Causeway Blvd., as well as the 6th St. turning lane beginning on Monday, Dec. 3 through Friday, Dec. 7 to accommodate construction of the Causeway risk reduction project.

The left lane of northbound Causeway Blvd. will close beginning at 6th St. and continue through the northern limits of the construction zone from 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day for concrete placements.

The 6th St. turning lane on northbound Causeway Blvd. will close from 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. to drive piles for the new canopy. During this time period, traffic will be detoured to 7th St.; 6th St. will be open for two-way traffic to provide access to businesses along Ridgeway Dr.

The left lane of southbound Causeway Blvd. will close beginning at the northern limits of the construction zone and continue through 6th St. from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day for fiber splicing and painting.

All closures have been coordinated with the Greater New Orleans Expressway Commission.

The Causeway risk reduction project is an integral part of the Greater New Orleans Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction System and will reduce risk for residents and businesses on the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain from a storm surge event that has a one percent chance of occurring each year. Construction on this project will be complete in early 2013.
