Temporary road closure to occur on Freret Street at Jefferson Avenue

Work related to the Southeast Louisiana Urban Flood Control Project (SELA)

NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, will temporarily close a portion of Freret Street for work related to the Southeast Louisiana Flood Control Project (SELA).

Weather dependent, on Monday, August 14, 2017, Freret Street will be closed on the east (downtown) side of Jefferson Avenue for approximately three months. During this closure, northbound (lake bound) traffic will be maintained on Jefferson Avenue. Traffic traveling west (uptown) on Freret Street will be detoured prior to reaching Jefferson Avenue. Traffic traveling east (downtown) on Freret Street will be able to access Jefferson Avenue. Detour signage will be in place.

This closure is for drain and water line work related to box culvert construction. This is the last extended closure of Freret Street at Jefferson Avenue for work related to SELA. There will be a brief closure at the end of the project for final roadway restoration. The project is currently scheduled to be complete in summer 2018.

Throughout construction, the Army Corps will continue to coordinate closures with its partners at the City of New Orleans and the Sewerage & Water Board.
